Do You!

In order to do you, you must first know you. Because if you don’t know you, who does? Something to think about, huh?

There are some things that make you different from anyone else on the planet. Try to stop and identify what some of those things could be for you, now if you can. You have likes and dislikes when it comes to your own tastes, in food, clothing, subjects, sights to see, places to go, things to do, colors, etc. You get the drift, right?

Maybe nobody ever asked you those questions. Maybe you never stopped to take the time to consider what those likes and dislikes looked like for you. Notice how different they may be from people you know, like friends, family, coworkers, or anyone you would pass by while out and about. Notice how they move. Slow. Fast. How do they look? Happy. Sad. Rushed. Now answer those questions about yourself. What’s different?

That is what makes you, you!

When you shop, what tends to get your attention most? When eating out, what do you mostly have an appetite for? What’s something that friends or family members eat that just doesn’t appeal to you at all? Maybe you tried it because they seemed to like it, but it did nothing for you taste buds.

That’s okay. It’s simply what makes you, you. Be good with that!

When you know who you are, you don’t go around letting others change your mind or sway you into being and doing like them, just for the sake of pleasing them. Or maybe you have a hard time saying NO. Learn to be okay with you, just the way you are. Uniquely made.

Now don’t get me wrong. It’s okay to change when there’s something about you that just doesn’t sit right with you, especially when someone is introducing something different to you. You might not be clear on your yes or no at the time, so feel free to test things out, you might take a liking to it. Go ahead. Try it on for size and see how it feels for you. Like it? Make the switch. Don’t like it? Keep learning you and testing and trying until something lands.

These are all ways to learn yourself and who you see yourself as being. When you get to know, like, and trust you, then by all means, feel free to just DO YOU! One response to “Do You!”

  1. During my morning walk, while listening to a podcast, this very topic of identity came to mind. I was wondering, how to know exactly who I am at the core. This helps. Thanks!
